Time. date and network settings never get saved - Macpup 412

I did a full install on an old thinkpad 390x. It runs fine except that my settings for time and date never get saved. Also, when I have to manually set my network setup everytime I start up. What am I doing wrong or is this normal?

Side note - I use a dlink 650 wireless card. It sets up ok but the reception I get is spotty at best. I can be in the next room 15ft away or in the same room 3 feet away and connection to the router is very intermittant. I've used xautoconnect but it seems to connect to a neighbor's wireless router more than it does mine. I can also connect with a linksys usb100 ethernet adapter when I'm near the router or another ethernet outlet in the house. Any ideas?

I think you need to check the md5sum for the .iso you have downloaded.I think your download is bad.

Do you still have the live cd? I would suggest putting a pup-save file on a usb flash drive and see if it saves your settings.

I re-downloaded 412f and got a good one (md5sum checked out ok) Now my burner is giving me problems. Gotta get it on my other pc to burn it later.

It seems like I can reliably get on wirelessly with the pwireless app. But I can't seem to save a profile so I can do it a little less painfully. Now I have to reenter my encryption pass everytime. Hope to soon figure this not being able to save my setting out soon.

In stead of doing a full install , Try just using a pup-save file and see if that saves your settings. If it does just do a frugal install and you should be fine.

    thanks runtt21.

Got a new set o' problems.

So I just used Macpup the way it was, entering my wep key every time through pwireless so I could access the net. After having some free time, I decided to try a newer version.

I went to MP Foxy 3, MP Opera and MP Foxy 2.0. Running Live cd of all three worked fine until I tried to setup my wireless card. I'm still running an old Thinkpad 390x with a Dlink DWL-650 wireless card. The problem is when I go through the motion of setting up the card, I can scan for my network, which it finds, but doesn't show signal noise just shows a ? (strength it does show.) It says it finds a live network. When finalizing and selecting auto dhcp, it gives me a and address that is different from the one that worked in MP 412. The address it gives does not allow to connect to the net. I tried manually setting up an address but I'm not to familiar with everything there, so that didn't work either. I would have thought Foxy 2.0 would have worked because it's based on 412 also. Maybe I was wrong.

    Any ideas?

Fox 2 has a different kernel and drivers than what Macpup 412 has. I cant really help you much with this. I have never even tried to use wireless in any version of Linux or even Windows. Nothing on that side of puppy has been changes I would check the puppy forum and look for you card in the networking section. If you Have Usb port We have had a report of the RokMan Wireless-G 802.11g WiFi USB Adapter BT3 Linux Backtrack . Working well with Opera , they run around 20$ u.s.

Well it looks like I'm just stuck with 412 for a while. Thanks for the info.
