Hi,
I use Macpup 5.25 with update 001.
I want to remaster my macpup.
So, as I didn't know if my external sfs files ( that was loaded ) are included in the remastering process I unmounted them as the usual and made a restart.

after that, I opened the remastering script Macpup comes with, pick a large free-space partition for the remastering process, mounted the orig ISO as "-o loop" so the remastering program can take what ever files it needs. BUT as I entered the screen that usual asks me for the Macpup origional files ( from the ISO ) it crashes without warning and gives me weird screen about "Xdialog" and its possible switches.

I saw that this problem repeat it self to other Puppy users in their forum, as posted here:

So then I decided to download a newer script from the same post named "pupremaster.sh.gz".
I ran this remastering script, passed successfully the problematic part I mentioned above, and successfully made a new puppy.SFS file ( which I replaced its name to "macpup_525.sfs" ).
then I renamed my orig "macpup_525.sfs" and replaced the newer in the same folder - to check its success.

I successfully boot-up Macpup again, but this time I get an ERROR just before X loads up the desktop.
it says "/root/.packages/woof-installed-packages is missing".

So...Dear developer:
Can you please take a look at the script, and reprogram it to be compatible with Macpup 525 ( as the current one is buggy and not allows to compile remastering ).

The easiest thing for you do to for now is to run the remaster script again..When you get to the point when it says it has made /tmp/root and ask if you want to change anything, open rox, go to /tmp and delete the root folder in the /tmp folder.Keep that rox open where it is.Open a second rox window and this time COPY your /root folder into /tmp. Close both rox's and continue the remaster. Do the same when it makes /tmp/etc. Then rename the pup_525.sfs to macpup_525.sfs like you did before.

Thanks for the quick answer...
I did just what you wrote - it eliminates the "woof-installed-packages" notification.

BUT, I got another problem, But I'm not sure it's because the the mastering process:
After I did what you wrote, I booted up with just the new remastered "macpup_525.sfs" file and moved the 3FS file to another location - so when I boot, puppy knows it's like it 1st run.

After I login, I get the welcome screen as I got 1st time I got this puppy - and entered my details, and pressed save.
Then I immediately preformed restart - and it got me to the "do you want to save puppy changes" - the personal storage creation screen.
I picked up the same details as before: ext3, no encryption, no change of name - but Then it should have brought me a "in which folder do you want to save" screen - BUT IT DIDN'T !
at that allegedly pick-a-folder-to-save place, the "saving program" quit - and report something like "saving process failed". ( and of course the 3fs file does not being created ).

I run macpup always from HDD (frugal), and all the files are under 1 subfolder.

Maybe I got another hint for you:
1. today, when I login and then reboot my frugal macpup ( not the remastered ) - the saving-process reports "macpupsave.3fs mounted directly top-layered: session already saved"
2. My PUPSTATE mode before remastering is 12 - after remastering: it's 5

The problem exist only when I choose to create 3fs file after remastering, not with 2fs.
When I used the ORIG macpup - I could save 3fs file ( as this is my personal storage file I currently have ).

Let me please be clearer about another thing:
I run Macpup as Frugel, on my HDD - because it's faster then USB.
I want to come to the point so i can remaster/remake a new macpup525.sfs file as a base for the future.
I don't care about "real" remastering an ISO - I just want to "take a snapshop" of my current macpup inside one macpup525.fsf file.

I even tried un-successfully to create this file manually by going through the steps wrote here: http://puppylinux.org/wikka/remastering - something still don't works.

[UPDATE 2 - SUCCESS]
OK.... I don't know why - but I found something...
As I told you, I want my final Macpup to run from an USB-Flash card, but currently, for the upgrading/installing additional material on the macpup i've transferred my frugal install from the flash-card to an HDD.
Then I install a couple of programs and wanted to "remaster" the macpup - I.E: to merge the macpup525.sfs and the macpupsave.3fs TOGETHER.

So i've performed the steps from the link at the end of my last post, but this time - after I've merged the files into one macpup525.sfs - I've override the current sfs that was on the Flash-card, and purged the old 3fs file that was on it.
More over, I've manually edited BOOTCONFIG & PUPSTATE inside the newly merge sfs- so it will look like when I ran the remster program.
Then I booted up the Flashdisk - and - IT'S WORKING !!!

Now that I guess I know the LONG WAY that works - Let me ask you this:
Is there a shorter way to do it ? any other script/program ? if not - can you please make any ?

I can't really explain why your build was acting like it did. I am working on a remaster script but it's still got a long way to go. When I build a new version of macpup I dont use a remaster script.I manually overhaul the original pup-525.sfs . The result is a completely pristine build. No chance of any kind of configure file getting into the new pup or anything else.It takes a lot of time to do it my way but to me the result is worth it.I usually take two to three weeks on a build. Then we test and fix a lot.
