Back when I finished the first Macpup foxy I started working on a pup with the latest version of e17.I wanted a version that would run newer backgrounds and themes. I had read lots of post from people tiring to compile it in the puppy linux forum and it looked like no one had done it since the old .sfs version was made by MU. So I learned how to compile in puppy and started working on it.
With help from Ttuuxxx and MU I compiled dbus and E17 in puppy 4.0 but it had a lot of issues. It would hang at start up showing the jwm desktop until you clicked on the desktop then E would run. It would hang when changing themes and when it was shutting down it would hang after X closed down.I tried to recompile everything using NOP as a base but the same things happened. When puppy 4.1 came out I started over.It worked better. The delays where not as bad but it still did it.Then a new version of E17 came out and puppy 4.1.2 came out and I rebuilt it again. At this point I had built 6 different E17 puppys.I tried everything I could think of but just couldn't fix it.
That was why we released macpup e17 with the old .sfs E17 and packed it with extra themes and backgrounds.I didnt think a new version would ever work. But my good friend Catdude had a look at it about two weeks ago and Fixed it !!!So I would like to share with all of you what is IMO the best E17 pup that has been built to date.
Macpup Foxy E17 has all the apps form puppylinux 4.1.2 plus Firefox 2 , Gimp , Vlc and Xvidcap. It has six extra new themes and nine extra backgrounds including the first ever puppy E17 background ," puppy vegas", by Catdude . The Famous Bg Layered Sky background is also included but it is a major CPU hog. Just run it on one background for a short time to show it off. Not only can you have a different background on each desktop but you can set up the shelves on each desktop differently. So you can make one desktop look like macpup. One like KDE,One like Gnome & one like Anti-X if you want.I have thing like that a little by default. On the first desktop the changer is in the bottom right. On the rest it is in the top right.Menus update themselves soon after you install something.

If you want the background in the screen shot, you can get it here :

Thank you all very much !!! Let me know what you think.

Congratulations and thanks, Macpup Foxy E17 is great. As a hobbyist, I've tried several linux distros and Puplets and have found Macpup 412F to be the best for me until I tried Foxy E17. It runs great from USB boot with wine and open office sfs files. Come to think of it, I haven't run Windows on my home computer for more than two months thanks to Macpup!

What a great distro. I joined the forum just to tell you and thank you. I've always
liked E17 but am finding yours to be the most usable ( for me ). Even the Broadcom wireless card works. Tried it from the "LiveCD" on a PC and laptop and it's amazing
on both. I'll be installing it soon.
    thanks again-GREAT JOB!

  11. Hi runtt, you and Prit really do yourselves proud with your MacPups and they just keep getting better ~ my daughter was very impressed when i showed her the E17 Foxy release, commenting that Window$ is so boring and ugly and that your offering has so much more class and elegance, not to mention speed, on her T42 Thinkpad. When i have the opportunity, i'll try to get her network-locked wireless dongle to play nice so we can install Puppy and she can say "CYA!" to M$.

I've been a happy Mac user for over two years now but these days i can't get by without my faithful (mac)Puppy as well :-D

I'm still a babe in the woods, (well ok, not so much a babe nowadays!!), where Linux is concerned but, with the help and info available on the Puppy forums, i'm enjoying the learning experience.

Thanks heaps guys, you do a brilliant job and it must take many long hours....LONG LIVE THE (mac)PUPPY!!
