I tried it yesterday, but in my eeepc 701 it was unable to get the wifi at all. With the normal puppy 4.12 I have no problem. Even installing the madwifi's patch nothing happened...
Did you try the Puppy 4.12 (Standard-with the new kernel) or the Puppy 4.12 retro? Macpup is based on Puppy 4.12 Retro. I have not started making a Macpup out of the standard Puppy 4.12.
Ah, thank's. In fact it was the new kernel I used. So I will continue waiting for the new kernel before trying... Anyway, what a nice distribution!
I think the eeePC 701 uses the same Atheros AR5007EG wifi chip as my Samsung NC10 and I've just got that working flawlessly with Macpup 4.12.
The only thing you need to do is download the following patch which is the correct one for the Macpup kernel:
madwifi-ng-r2756-eeepatch-k2.6.21.7.pet
from this web page:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=22245
and install it. You may need to unload the existing driver before installing eg, using Network Manager, and then load up the new module, again with Network Manager.
On rebooting I used Network Manager to detect my AP and set up a profile for it. And it's perfect now - connects every time on boot-up.
Thanks a lot Reeshar.
I will also post if/when a Macpup is made with the newer kernel.
Well, what can I say?
I've tried Fedora and various versions of Puppy 4.12 but I've not been able to get any of them to work properly on my new Samsung NC10 netbook.
The Samsung has two difficult specifics: a GMA 950 graphics adaptor (implemented by a Mobile Intel 945 Express chipset) and an AR5007EG-based wifi card - the latter fixed as described above.
Xorg in all versions of Puppy I've tried, including Macpup, seems to have a problem with the GMA 950 at the 1024x600x24 resolution so I've used Xvesa which works fine. However, standard Puppy 4.12 won't shut down properly. It closes down Xvesa and then seems to try restarting with Xorg for some reason which then hangs.
Macpup, on the other hand, closes down the X server cleanly, saves RAM changes to the state file on the USB memory stick and then turns the PC off. All apps seem to work really well with no problems at all - even sound and BBC videos. Fantastic!
If I had one wish it would be for the JWM taskbar to hide when not being accessed given the size of my screen. I've tried setting it up in the JWM config app but it doesn't seem to work - or rather it worked to start with but then I lost the Macpup look!
Macpup is using Icewm and I am not sure the configuration option that would auto hide the taskbar. Maybe some searching through the internet can reveal something. If you want to use Jwm, exit to prompt and type xwin jwm in the console to get into Jwm. Now you can edit one of the .jwm* hidden files under /root to achieve the taskbar autohide.
But, if you go back to jwm, you will lose the Macpup look. The wbar will stay the same, but the other window looks will not stay.
Let me know if you want to use Jwm and I can give you more specific instructions if the above does not get you started.
@ Reeshar
Thank's, it worked!
@ Prit
Now I got Macpup installed in the SD. Is there any tutorial to get acquainted with it? Thank's again
Macpup is basically Puppy linux with few extras to make it attractive. Grant released a book that can be downloaded free or purchased as a printed copy. The Puppy forum thread that discusses this is here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=37279
I just noticed that the download link is missing. Someone has reported this on the thread too. So you might have to wait for it to be resolved.

I like MacPup's appearance. Nice work guys !!
Tried the 412 and 412F.
Since I like the Firefox browser, the F would be my favorite, but I wonder why you kept Seamonkey in there ?? This makes the iso to large to run on my 128Mb laptop.
IS it easy to strip Seamonkey out ??
Thanks harm.
It should be easy to strip seamonkey out. There used to be a Pet-be-gone package available on the Puppy forum that could accomplish removing inbuilt packages from Puppy. Seamonkey is built into the base Puppy. Also, some programs like Gxine depend on few seamonkey (mozilla) libraries. So if you get rid of Seamonkey completely, Gxine will stop working.
You can search the Puppy form using the link below to see if you get any help. Otherwise, please post back and I will get the steps to remove seamonkey.

Hi Prit,
Thanks for the response. Saves me a lot of time, since I need Gxine and would have fallen into a pit trap taking Seamonkey out. I understand that is one of the reasons why you left it in (the other would be not to divert from the standard Puppy distro).
I'll try to get some memory upgrade. I think I can load up to 160Mbyte, so that would definitely help.
Harm
Hi Harm,
Are you doing a frugal or full install? For a frugal install, it would require more than 200MB ram to completely load into ram. So with less ram, it would be advisable to do a full install or to have a good enough swap file (~500 MB) on your hard disk. This would be the case even if we drop seamonkey.
Thanks! I just started using macpuppy 412F, booting from USB. Looks great, boots and runs fast. Would like to learn to use Java, Open Office and GIMP with this as that would cover my needs nicely.
Hi danjandris,
You can get the links to the packages from the Macpup options menu. This is available under desktop on the main menu.
The first post on this thread lists some Puppy sites that are helpful. You can search the Puppy forum using the link on the first post Open Office packages.
I am finding my way, thanks! macpup 412F is great. I can complete a web search within 60 seconds of turning my machine on. Wow!
Thanks for the feedback.
