I am using a Dell Latitude C640 P4/512mbRam/40gig HD and I am using JWM. I have installed dellfand program to help keep the cpu and system cooler. Its seems to climb all the way up to 160 without it, much too hot. So, I am currently starting the program via the console every time I boot. If I could get directions to auto start this program, that would be spiffy. the command is >dellfand 0 5 30 40 50.
I do see the directory Startup under my root directory. I assume thats one way to go? Or should I simply add a line to the hidden file .xinitrc? I would try this first, but I don't want to screw up my O.S.. I have already personalized my Macpup and spent hours adding programs like Qlabels label editor, Duke Nukem, Doom, Ltris, Xgalaga, etc. Thank you in advance for your help, my fellow linux addicts. Puppy rocks.
BTW, if anyone else is using a C-series laptop with puppy, google dellfand-0.9.pet Install, then your console type dellfand 0 5 30 40 50
your laptop will thank you. I have also used this on a D400 P4 with good results. I don't know if this will work on other D-series Dells, I can't see how trying it can hurt.

You can make a new script in /root/startup and have the line exec dellfand 0 5 30 40 50 in it.
Did you try the cpu scaling tool ?

Hello and thanks for responding so quickly. I did try the CPU scaling tool and it came up with a dialog box basically saying that it was good for just that one session. So I would have to set it up all over again for another session? Anyway, what good having a super modern, super fast P4 1.8 GHz laptop just to slow it down? LOL. The program dellfad works great, I just want it auto starting. Now this script you have mentioned, how do I go about creating that? just open leafpad and put in the line: exec dellfand 0 5 30 40 50? I tried that and it did not work. is there some way to turn that script into an executable program? Again, thanks for your help and kudos on a brilliant distro mod.

Open Rox ( the file manager) Go to /root/startup In that folder right click on a open spot and then new - script. Then name the script what you want. Then it will make the script . Right click on it and select open as text.
