Configuring CUPS For Your Printer
This guide shows the basic steps to get your printer working in 32-bit Puppy, such as Macpup-528, (which is what i'm using to do this), unless your particular make/model needs fancy stuff with extra files to putz around with, but i haven't found it necessary to do anything like that so far (touch wood).<
And this, my first guide-writing attempt, was motivated by runtt21, Macpup's developer.
Please Note: that i have no idea how to go back a page if i make a mistake, so you might find yourself back at square one if you make a boo-boo. Not that it's any real drama if you do, because it really is a straight-forward procedure for most standard printers.
1. Launch Puppy Setup (TopHat Icon) from iBar and select 'Setup CUPS Printing'

2. Click the 'Administration' tab at the top, then click 'Find New Printers'

3. On the next screen, under 'Available Printers', i see it's found my Epson RX650, so then i click 'Add This Printer'

4. Next screen shows my printer info: Name, Description, Location and Connection type.
Choose whether or not to share this printer (on your local network, if you have one), then click 'Continue'

5. This screen shows your printer details as found, and there's a scrolling viewport from which you choose the printer's make. As you see in the screenshot, i selected 'Epson'.
If your printer's make is in the list, select it and click 'Add Printer', the bottom button.

6. OK, this next screen shows the details gathered so far and now the scrolling viewport asks us to select the model. In my case, the particular model, RX650 isn't shown, so i select the previous model.
As you can see, it doesn't matter a great deal, as the same drivers are used for all the visible models in the list.
Having made your selection, click 'Add Printer' again, which brings you to the 'Set Default Options' screen, so we're almost there....yayyyy!!
Note: In the screenshot it says 'Modify..' but that's because i lost the original screenie and had to go back and get another, but since it already recognised my printer, my option was limited to 'modify', not 'add'.

7. Now, choose your options, which would probably depend on the printer make/model, then click the 'Set Default Options' button.

8. The following screen should quickly inform you that your printer has been set up, before it brings you to this working screen.

9. Here, on the 'Maintenance' drop-down menu, you'll find options for printing out a test page, so i clicked that option and voila! a lovely black and colour page was printed, so i'm in business!

Other options allow you to clean print-heads etc. and the 'Administration' menu allows you to add or change users, change the defaults, etc., so CUPS is quite easy to use these days, with improved options and a much better interface than it used to have.
I hope some users will find this helpful..
Cheers,
