Hey,
I just tried macpup 528... and I LOVE it! I've been using both windows, osx and ubuntu in the past, but to be honest macpup has the greatest feel. And it seems super fast. Kudos:)
However, I haven't been able to install it to the hard drive. Let it be said that I'm a complete newbie to Linux. I used ubuntu after a friend installed it for me, and I still haven't figured it all out. Basically I want my os to allow me to write and surf with as little hassle as possible. (and that's why I want a light weight OS for my old thinkpad)
So I'm sure these are newbie questions. Anyway: This is what happens when I try to install.
I've ran macpup from live-usb (don't have a working cd-drive), with no problems. And then I've tried to follow the instructions and install it to the hard drive. However, I wasn't able to do the first step - partition the hard drive. In Gpart I couldn't make a partition table and format the partitions to Ext3, for some reason - I got the message that there were partitions in use. Tried to delete or unmount the partitions, but it seems like the problem is that the main partition is still in use, and can't be unmounted. Currently it is formatted as ext4 (27 gb), and then there is an unallocated partition below of approx. 760 mb.
So I skipped that part, and tried to do both a full and frugal install, hoping that it would work. It seemed to work at first, and I updated the menu.lst file and turned off the computer. I removed the live-usb and attempted to boot from the hard drive. But when I try to boot I get this message:
/sbin/init: symbol lookup error: /lib/libnih-dbus.so.1: undefined symbol: dbus_message_iter_abandon_container
Kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init!
This has happened several times in a row. I have no idea what this means or what I should do.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
(another newbie question: wouldn't it be possible to simplify the installation procedure? I installed Lubuntu before I tried macpup, and didn't like it. However, it was super simple to install - just clicked on an install icon and everything went automatically from there)
