    Thank you for this very good blogging application. I have gone through a lot of demos looking for the right one for the K-12 education environment. So far, what I believe is right for that environment is mostly available with your script. As a veteran teacher, blogging must be easy to use and practical for instruction and learning to take place for the students and the teachers. With that in mind, I was wondering if these features can be put into the blogging script.

    Video, audio (podcasting) and flash uploading and playing capability. Basically, the ability to embedded the code. I was able to do this through the HTML feature through nice edit, but the video and the audio don't show up in the browser's feeder application. Maybe it is the browser's feeder application causing the problem.

    Since this script can be used for each academic area, it would be nice to allow each author (students, parents, administrators, teachers, etc.) to be able to edit and delete their own posts as opposed to being currently able to edit and delete any post. And, even if they are not allowed to do this through admin, it doesn't make any since because there are times when that post needs to be deleted or edited. I did notice that someone created a MU version of Pritlog using subdomain names, but in the educational enviroment, it is more practical through the author feature.

    Another feature that would be useful would be for each author is to be able to select which particular group they belong to (math, science, english, etc.) and to have their own rss feed, so each student could select a particular teacher's rss feed to aggregate that they are currently attending classes for.

    Another feature I think that would be very useful in education is the ability to import other rss feeds from other learning web sites because it would broaden the teachers learning material and thus, broaden the students learning breadth and depth.

    Hi Chill ..

    Thanks for the feedback.

    1 - The videos I and some others tried got embedded correctly. Can you please explain this problem better? What did you mean when you said "feeder application"?

    2 - You can disable options in the "advanced configuration" so that each author can edit/delete only their posts. Try this out and let me know if this does not work as you expected.

    3 - Also, you could setup categories for each section and if you filter the posts by category (by clicking on the tags or category section) and then click on the RSS icon on the browser, it would give the RSS feed for this partular category.

    Currently Pritlog does not have import from external RSS feeds feature. But, I believe, we might be able to add this using a plugin if we continue to keep the plugin functionality.

    2- So what you are saying is that to prevent authors from editing or deleting other peoples' post you would not select (check) the following:

    A. Authors can edit / delete any post
    B. Authors can delete comments

    The way it is written was a little confusing to me and hopefully what I said is correct.

    3- I see what you are saying now. The tags you input for the post become the categories, so by doing this, you can be as specific as you can be for your post.

    Hi Chill,

    1 - I see what you are saying. So it works well on the browsers, but when you look at the RSS feeds, the video and audio don't show properly. Did I understand correctly?

    2 - Yes, you are right. I am sorry for not making it clear in the verbiage I used.

    Hi Prit,

    So far, if you click the specific category, which opens to that particular page and then click the RSS Feed link, you still get all of the posts even if they are not in that category.

    Here is a link to show you what I am talking about.

    Am I missing something here?

    What I am wanting to do is to just show the posts from that particular category only.

    By the way, how did you input the photo gallery part? I read that someone or you had done this. And, where do I get this script?

    Hi Chill,

    Actually, when I said, RSS feed link, I was meaning the RSS feed icons shown in the url field when you visit the site using Firefox, not the link on the Pritlog page. Sorry for not making it clear again.

    Here is the link from your site's firefox RSS icon:
    http://www.myedusite.com//webumake/school/demo1/blogging/index.php/RSS/physics

    This will list only RSS feeds from physics.

    The gallery part - I created for the Pritlog hosted solution at http://pritlog.com. A sample can be seen at http://blog.hardkap.com. In Pritlog hosted solution, one can send a mail to a certain email id and this mail gets automatically converted and posted into a blog post. If the mail has images, then this gets converted to a gallery. I did not check if this plugin will work stand alone without this mailing functionality. I can check it and let you know tomorrow.

    Hi Prit,

    Yes, I see what you mean :)

    Another thing I noticed is that initially I couldn't change the admin configurations, but when I changed the chmod on authors.php and on config_admin.php to 777 it worked. I'm using Parallels Plesk Control Panel 8.6.

    Hi Chill,

    I have uploaded the image gallery plugin here:

    You need to extract its contents into the plugins folder in Pritlog 0.81 Alpha1.

    And when you add images, you should use the HTML editor in nicEdit to format it like below:

    I know it is not straight forward. On the Pritlog hosted solution this becomes very easy as another script automatically converts all attached images in a mail to this gallery format. So no manual editing is required.

    Hi Prit,

    I now back from my family and I vacationing in Mexico and ready to get back into finishing what I need to do with Pritlog. Since we talked last time, I did sign up with hostmonster.com through your affiliate link and setup Prilog with no problems. I have a script that allows me to create sub domains with each new registration, so that went ok as well (http://chill.paid.myedublog.com).

    The next thing I tried to do was setup the email forwarder in cPanel using the pipe instructions on your blog, but I was unable to figure it out. So far, I created an email forwarder chill@myedublog.com with the pipe going to /home/maindomainusername/########/thenameoftheblogdirectory/pipe.php. This is the pipe path because thenameoftheblogdirectory is an addon domain for the main domain. And, as you know in cPanel, it is setup this way. I then took the code from your blog in step two and named it pipe.php and placed it in the root directory where Pritlog is installed. I also created a Pritlog account with the user name chill, so that is why I created the email forwarder as chill@myedublog.com. As I understand it in cPanel you don't have to have an email account in cPanel setup for email forwarder to work.

    The problems I have is that I don't know what I need to have and what I need to do to fully implement what you said you did on your blog (http://hardkap.net/blog/index.php/viewEntry/00055/PHP-script-to-handle-incoming-mails-using-pipes). For example:

    1. How do you implement the email to post validations and store this in the database?
    2. What do I do with the code in step 3? Do I add it to the pipe.php file? If so, where do I put the code? or do I name it another file name? if so, what do I name it?
    3. Is the tempmail.txt put into the root directory where Pritlog is installed?
    4. What is the chmod for tempmail.txt?
    5. How does cPanel's email forwarder, the pipe program and the Pritlog Blog work to post the email blog to their Pritlog Blog? So far, my technical mind can't picture it and that is why I am stuck.
    6. Does the stable Pritlog 0.81 version I download have the gallery implementation you talked about for your Pritlog hosted solution when email posting is done? If not, can you make this available to the users who want this feature?

    Hi Chill,

    Hope you had a great vacation. I saw that you had purchased the hostmonster account using the affiliate link. Thanks a lot for this. Now coming to your questions:

    1 - I will modify the script that I have and get this out to you in a couple of days.
    2 - Yes, this code will go in pipe.php towards the end. Anyway, you can give the script that I will be sending.
    3 - This can be in any directory. Just use the correct path in pipe.php and make sure it has right permissions.
    4 - The permissions actually depend on how your server is configured. Usually, with hostmonster, I have rarely had to change permissions. The default worked fine for me.
    5 - As far as I understood, you need to have an actual email id the same as the email forwarder you added. When you send the email, the email goes to the program and is available for the program so that it can parse the data from it and process it.
    6 - The gallery plugin is posted earlier on this thread. You can just use that.

    Yes, we did have a good time in Mexico, but I am sure glad to be back. And, your welcome with regard to the affiliate purchase. I think it is a good way to pay you back for the good things you are doing. Hopefully, other users will also find the time to contribute some funds to your endeavors too who haven't already done so. And, finally, thank you for helping me out, so I can do my part in helping to improve K-12 public education.
