i am having a difficult time getting macpup 520 to install on vmware, is there anything specific i need to do.
basically the install is not seeing the virtual disk that i created during the vmware setup process to install macpup, gparted is not seen it the disk and is no listed on the partitions, i have installed several distros on vmware, never had this issue, any suggestions would be welcome thanks.

I have never used vmware so I dont know. Is there a problem with just running it live off the cd? You do know that you don't have to install it at all.You can put a save file on a sd card or usb stick and it will save all your extra apps and data.You just need to boot with the cd. It will run a lot faster that way to.You wont be running 2 os's at the same time.
You can also use grub4dos to make a bootable usb drive.

You will need to partition the virtual drive before you can use it. I have a feeling that this is applicable to all Puppy versions but not any other linux that I've come across. Can't quite remember how I did it when I last installed a puppy but I think the steps were:
1. Create the new Vmware machine but with the option to install the os later.
2. Boot the vmware machine with a Partition Wizard or Gparted boot disc
3. Create the drive and partition it
4. Reboot the Vmware machine with the Macpup cd or disk iso file and install.
A bit of a pita but I think that's the only way you will manage the install because the drive is not recognised until it is created, partitioned and formatted.

There are a few other problems you might run into as follows:
When installing Vmware tools the following are required:
1. gcc, make and the kernel sources
2. Requirement to create the following directories: rc0.d to rc6.d and also rcS.d
It's a lot of fiddling and I wonder if it's worth the trouble. I don't know about Macpup 5.2 yet but the latest Lupu did not maintain the Vmware tools settings after a shutdown or reboot, thus making it pretty useless as a virtual machine.
I love the puppy system but still can't quite come to grips with how to use it as an everyday system.
